The Round UP
Edition 02: Life and What I'm Loving Lately
Almost the freakin’ weekend folks! I put the hubby on a plane early this morning for an almost two week golf trip and I’m enjoying a long coffee and plotting my SSB ( single self behavior…from “Sex in the City”) during this PGA tour. As much as I adore him, I enjoy this time apart. He gets to enjoy his favorite hobby/past time without me asking “last hole?” and I get to enjoy a house without a boy. I can snack or not eat dinner haha, watch my shows, clean out my closet without interruption, go out or not go out you get the picture. I get to introvert in a sense. Also distance makes the heart grow fonder :) You get to miss each other, really miss each other. Now am I looking forward to being a single puppy parent: no especially since Birdie is getting fixed next week on my watch. So nursing a 16 month puppy in a cone may break my detox plan but I will survive and tag JJ, you’re it when you get home! I’ll share on my next post some of my SSB but first just a few must have’s and nuggets of joy I’ve gotten lately…
I swear by AYR or All Year Round for basics. I have a lot of button downs from Old Navy to TWP but my favorite as far as fit, quality etc. are from AYR. This new style called the Tate with an already popped up collar is my new jam. I bought in the blue oxford and just ordered it in white. It’s inspired by a vintage mens shirt from Dior the designers found and it’s just so good for something different but a basic.
I love coffee table books especially on interior design. Livable Luxe by Brigette Romanek is one of my favorites. It came out last Fall and is a constant source of inspiration for me. I’m going to start a spruce and look change in our home soon (no walls are coming down just chandelier change, table change etc.) and I have been pouring over the photos in this book for inspiration and creative fuel. She mixes high and low, contemporary and traditional, she’s fabulous IMO.
I just bought a new kitchen knife, I know wow boring. I must be an adult because it brought me big joy. I looked at lots of options at Williams Sonoma one day when I had to make a return and after learning about all of my choices from Steve, I decided on this chefs knife. It feels good, it's a good weight, its chops and dices like a champ…I proudly took it out of the bag like a kid showing off her sports medal to my husband. “Isn’t it beautiful?” I grinned from ear to ear. I keep it in its special sheath, it’s not in the knife block with others, and I’m very protective of who uses it. It’s the little things friends or I need a life.
If you need a great lip balm, I’m loving this one from The Outset. It’s hydrating, long lasting, and I like the applicator. It also has a great juicy lip look, not oily or so much on and around your lips. That and this new perfume I got in Florence are my go to’s right now. I don’t know if I’ve gotten more asks about a perfume until this one…
This is my Summer of the bucket hat. I raved about the Felix hat from Janessa Leone in a previous post and after seeing a chic tourist walking the streets in this Celine bucket hat, my girlfriend and I both turned our heads and googled the Celine store location there immediately. They didn’t have my size in store, but like a dog on a scent trail, I tracked my size down within hours from a store in the US. Nobody puts baby in the corner or something I can’t live without…I love the hunt and I love this hat.
Some meditate, some draw, some do yoga, I do puzzles to quiet and center my mind. My mother in law a few weeks ago mentioned to me that a travel puzzle board exists and I replied “for real?” I found one on Amazon, of course, and it’s a game changer. Literally. I just roll up my puzzle I’m working on and take it with me to continue it. You also don’t have to think about where to set up your puzzle as far as table space because you roll it up and take it off the table when you need more space. Life just got a whole lot less puzzling.
I wish I could say I have a must read book, but has anyone watched Hunting Wives on Netflix yet? What the…hahaha. Um. Sex, bad Texas accents, and murder oh my!
I also just started the Life Kit podcast from NPR. The episodes are never longer than 30 mins and they cover topics from giving yourself tiny pep talks throughout your day, how to be a good houseguest, advice for taking compliments better etc. Quick and casual episodes but are helpful and something to think about.
Until next time!
SJ
